The All-on-6 procedure is similar but uses six dental implants to improve the stability of the fixed bridge. Nevertheless, not every patient’s jaw can support two additional implants inserted into the jaw without bone grafting, as the density of their jawbone can be insufficient. The All-on-6 procedure is slightly more expensive, as it uses more implants.

The implants used in these procedures are shaped like screws. They serve as attachment points for the fixed bridge. Only four or six implants are used for support because the screws place significant pressure on the patient’s jaw.

The implants have the ability to fuse with the patient’s bone, forming a strong bond between the screw and the surrounding osseous tissue. The process of forming such a connection is called osseointegration.

The implants used for both All-on-4 and All-om-6 procedures are made of titanium alloy. Titanium implants are durable, as they are made of metal. The material is non-toxic, though a small percentage of patients may have a titanium allergy.

The fixed bridge is attached to the implants using special pieces called abutments. They keep the bridge securely in place. The bridge itself can be made of several types of dental porcelain. It is a hard, durable material that perfectly mimics the appearance of natural tooth enamel. The porcelain can be made to have different shades if the patient does not want to have blindingly white teeth. Some types of modern dental porcelain can even replicate the slight translucency of the natural tooth enamel, but this type of ceramic has weaker structural integrity and can be damaged if the patient is prone to clenching their jaws.

The process of installing both types of full-arch dental implant systems is the same.

The first stage is the examination at the clinic. The patient’s jaws will be scanned to create a three-dimensional digital map of the osseous tissue. This map is used to determine the most structurally suitable locations for implant installation and to choose the best angle for the implants.

The surgery can begin after the examination. The patient’s mouth will be numbed with local anaesthesia. The surgeon will make gum incisions in the places determined by the 3d scan of the jaw to expose the bone. The screws are installed into the jaw, and the gums are stitched back together.

After installing the implants, the surgeon will attach a special low-pressure bridge to the screws, as the permanent bridge can’t be supported by the non-osseointegrated screws.

The process of osseointegration can take several months, though most patients will need to wait for at least half a year before they can get the permanent prostheses installed.

The patient will need to return to the clinic to get their permanent fixed bridge installed.

Some patients may need to have additional dental treatments before getting the implants installed. Some people’s sinus cavities are very close to their upper jaws. These people are at risk of sinus cavity perforation during implant installation and must have a sinus lifting surgery before implantation. The surgery will move their sinus cavities higher so the implants can be securely attached to the jawbone without perforating the sinuses.

Some people’s bone density is insufficient to support even an All-On-4 implant. These patients will need to have a bone graft. This is a surgery that increases bone density by transplanting non-essential dense osseous tissue to the jaws.

Other procedures that the patient may require are tooth extraction and orthodontic treatments.
